Good Friday
15 April- Luke 23: 33-49
“Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” Luke 23:46
Even though the liturgical calendar for this day is composed of more biblical texts, we would like to give emphasis to the last moments of our lord Jesus Christ in Golgotha. The suffering and pain, the despair, weakness, and all the mockery received almost the entire time; all of that went with him along until the last breath.
It is certainly not easy to accept such sadness reflected in those verses; neither to acknowledge it. Most times we wonder what he could or could not have felt, could or could not have thought, as he walked the path towards his death. However, we know for sure that those people, during the mockery, demanded him to show them whether he was really the Savior, the chosen because if that was true, he could save himself from all the suffering.
Lord Jesus, today we ask you for forgiveness and we know that sometimes our doubts, lack of confidence and trust, make us ask for proof whether you are the Lord or our true Savior. Several times have we lost faith due to our despair and fear. Help us to trust in the omnipresent Holy Spirit, and help us to believe in your saving work. may we trust that your plans for us are good and filled with love and justice. Father, today we place on this cross all the pain, the sorrow, all the injustice and persecution so that you be the one who promotes your divine will, filling the earth with your power and justice.
