Holy Saturday
16 April- John 19: 38-42
Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs. John 19:40
In the darkness of the death of Jesus, the verses for today show us the confirmation of his death as he was buried. Two disciples plus the women who followed the whole crucifixion process, take his body and carry him to the tomb. we observe how they clean him and wrap the lifeless body, in accordance with jewish burial customs. During such a moment of sadness today, where the hopelessness and the crying are confirmed, we also remind ourselves of those who suffered the loss of a beloved one, a moment in which hearts are torn apart and tears flood the soul.
With sadness, we remind ourselves today of the mass murderers, the poverty, the hunger, the persecution, the migration, the mistreatment and several other issues that are sadly part of the daily lives of our people. With sadness, we recognize that our lives and the lives of other people are not easy, being persecuted by death. We cry out for help, for we wish to run away from this tomb.
May the Holy Spirit guide us through this valley of the shadow of death. Heavenly Jesus Christ, teach us the paths of peace, light and justice. Heavenly Father, allow us to live in your love and mercy, and help us to be salt and light for the sad eyes that cannot see your justice.
