Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a forty-day season in which Christians are invited to repentance, deep reflection, and preparation for Easter. It is a time to recognize our human fragility and our need for God’s grace.
Based on this theme, the InS (Sustainability Institute) provides communities with an exclusive liturgical resource, part of the “Celebrating in Community” series. The resource offers a complete liturgy for Ash Wednesday, including suggested prayers and a sermon grounded in justice and mercy. The material highlights the call to transformation and to a spirituality that is not self-contained, but overflows into acts of love for one’s neighbor.
In addition to the order of service, the resource provides important guidance for the rite of the imposition of ashes, understood as a moment of both personal and communal spirituality. We invite all faith congregations to use this resource as a tool for unity and for strengthening their journey of faith in this new year.
