Celebrating Palm Sunday in community 2026

Palm Sunday opens the doors of Holy Week with a familiar yet always challenging scene: Jesus enters Jerusalem riding on a donkey, without armies or symbols of domination. The crowd acclaims him with branches and shouts of “Hosanna,” but the question that echoes through the city that day still resonates today: “Who is this?” It is an invitation to review our expectations and to recognize that the Kingdom of God is built on meekness and fidelity to the Father.

Based on this theme, InS (Sustainability Institute) offers communities a liturgical resource, part of the “Celebrando em Comunidade” booklet. The material provides a complete liturgy that highlights the figure of the humble Messiah, who confronts our false securities and our desire for power. The sermon included in the resource challenges the faith congregation not to seek a Christ who quickly solves problems, but rather to embrace the path of service, justice, and solidarity with those who suffer.

In addition to the order of worship, the resource provides guidance for the entrance procession with the branches, understood as a gesture of faith that transcends the merely ritual and becomes a commitment to peace and the transformation of the world. We invite all Christian congregations to use this material to strengthen their faith journey and to respond with their lives to the question that challenges us: who is Jesus for us?
